Happy New Year!!!!! Hello 2012

Happy New Year! Enjoy your evening and keep safe!!!!  We began going to a restaurant when my husband and I were dating with another couple for dinner every New Year's Eve. Over the years we have added little ones, that have turned into big ones, but we always meet for dinner. It is a nice tradition.
See you next year! Hugs>>>>

Good-bye Old.....Hello New

Yesterday I took down all my holiday decorations and cards. It has been really nice to have everything up and made the house warmer somehow. We had such a nice Hanukkah/Chirstmas season, but this last week has seemed really long. My hubby and I reflected on the year we have had. All the wonderful things we experienced, new friends that we made, and sadly a few family members we lost. All in all, it was a great year and we are very grateful. Here are a few pictures I took before packing everything up.

From my family to yours, have a wonderful New Year's, safe, happy and healthy. Thank you for stopping in and sharing my world everyday! See you in 2012!

The Hunger Games

Oh my. Can't put it down. I don't usually read this type of book but my big son begged me to read it. He is actually studying it in school. This is quite the book. A must read for your 2012 reading list.

Something New

I am working on something new. I will give you a little look....
It is called a drop stitch. So easy...so fun. Feels like you are doing it wrong...but you aren't! Knitting magic. Love it!

A Bunting!!!!!

I love buntings.....don't know why. To me they scream "Let's enjoy....let's celebrate."  I have always wanted to make my own (knit style of course).  So what do I do knee deep in orders, wrapping gifts, getting ready for the holidays???? I begin a bunting of course!  Hey, a girl has to have some fun right? So I walked into my personal yarn shop, otherwise known as the closet. And I found the perfect colours for this bunting of mine. So far I have two little flag pieces. I knit the triangle and crocheted the edges. So much fun!!!!  We will see where this goes. Now I have 3 projects on the go. The crochet blanket, the sky scarf, and now my bunting.....Can't start anything new....can't start anything new.....maybe if I write it, I will stick to it. Doubt it.

For those of you who are wondering how my doggie is, he spent an hour at our holistic vet yesterday. He had many potions and syrups, and even acupunture to help his digestive system. I am cooking for him meals of potatoes, turnips and ginger. I hope he is on the mend, poor little guy.

Poor Pup

I guess all my posts can't be about rainbows and beautiful yarn. Life sometimes isn't pretty.  My poor dog has been under the weather for a week now, and things aren't getting better. We have an appointment today with our holistic vet. It is so sad when your little bundle of fur is sick. They look at you with those big eyes but can't tell you what is wrong. Hopefully today we will get some answers and be able to help him in some way.....

Last Rainbow Post (I promise)

Well you might have not been sleeping at night in anticipation of the Rainbow Scarf saga. Did the little girl like it? How did it look in the end? Well here it is......

The little girl did like it. She liked it so much she asked where the matching hat was? (Oh my....I do feel sorry for her future husband). Anyway, I quickly made up a little hat to match.

Please do not look too closely at the attempt of a crocheted flower. I had such trouble following the pattern I had, in the end I winged it. I have so much to learn in the crochet world.....and it wasn't all going to happen last night at 10:00.  If you look real hard you can even see waffle crumbs. Why? Little girl loved it so much she wore it to breakfast. She thought the flower was beautiful.

So here it is. So glad it is over. Have you ever had a project you were glad to be finished with? But I have to say, when she walked into school this morning all decked out in it and her favourite teacher said, "Hi Rainbow girl" the look on her face was all worth it.

Rainbow Scarf the second

Well.....little girl came home yesterday, took one look at my lovely red beginning of the rainbow scarf and said it was not what she had in mind. She is five. I thought her mind was full of dolls and ways of tourmenting her brothers. I didn't realize fashion was also floating around in there. She told me she wanted a scarf that was a circle. I have been wearing my Canuck Twister in True Red around town this week and she really likes it. A circle scarf is amazing for kids as there are no ends to come loose and no knots to be made near a childs neck. So I began again..........
I am soooo loving making this crazy scarf. Crocheting is so neat and tidy.....and I haven't worked with bright colours in a long time. Already my head is in a spin and some other things I would like to make celebrating beautiful colurs!

Have a colourful weekend!

Rainbows

My little girl is all about rainbows lately. She comes home from school and changes into her rainbow dress, rainbow tights and puts 5 headbands in her hair. So I wasn't shocked when she asked me to make her a rainbow scarf. At first it sounded easy....just get yarn the colours of the rainbow and start. Boy, was I wrong. To find the exact shades was a bit of a challenge. And of course the yarn had to be soft. But what about all those ends??? I don't mind so much sewing them in, but on a scarf it could get messy looking. After some research and a long think, I came up with the idea to do it long ways so the ends can desolve into tassely sort of things. The only yarn that I found with the exact rainbow colours was an acrylic. I wanted to do it with cotton, but a more chunkier look. So far I am really pleased with this type of acrylic which is having a cotton sort of feel.

Because I am new to the world of crochet I once again went on YouTube to watch a video on single crochet. There are amazing videos out there for those who want to learn.....

Words For Wednesday

I do many of those things.....but I don't dance. It isn't pretty. And instead of drawing rainbows my little one wants me to knit one.....let you see my plan soon ;)

Warm Hands

I am about half way done my teacher gifts. I LOVE giving my kids teachers a hand knitted item from my shop. Being a former teacher myself, that 15 minutes on yard duty in the dead of winter can feel like a week. Hand warmers or a scarf or cowl is the best gift they could get!!!  I try to match the style and colour with their personality and style. These striped hand warmers are perfect for my son's young, hip grade seven teacher.

A Bit Of Me

Today I took a minute to think about why I love knitting so much. All the basics came to mind such as the feel and texture of the yarn, the many colours that I work with, and the clicking of the needles almost like music. But it is so much more. The thought that I am creating something from basically nothing is so wonderful. Two sticks and some yarn. That is it. I am creating something that starts in my head, travels to my hands and finishes with a little love from my heart. In every piece there is a bit of me. I made pieces for strangers in places I have only heard of. For newborn babies as the first clothes that they have ever worn or blankets they cuddle at bed-time. Even my grandmother was buried with a shawl that I knit her. Whether it has been for warmth or comfort, a tiny piece of me is with all these people. I think that is what I love most about knitting. What do you love?
